The Open BIM movement
A group of software vendors has taken the initiative to promote the adoption of BIM processes independent of the type of software being used.
BIM (Building Information Modeling) is the technology for sharing structured data in the AEC (Architecture-Engineering-Construction) world.
Being part of the non-profit international organization buildingSmart (www.buildingsmart.org) the Open BIM movement is looking to improve the quality level of digital collaboration between construction partners, from design to construction. The aim of the Open BIM program is to help coordinate efforts related to promotion and implementation of Open BIM collaboration workflows by providing common definitions, requirements and branding. AEC software vendors, AEC practices (designers, engineers, contractors) as well as AEC projects are all welcome to participate and use the OPEN BIM logo as the promise of successful and streamlined collaboration. BIM is all about processes and not about software packages.
If you want to learn more about Open BIM, read the section on our website www.scia.net or on the buildingSmart website. You are invited to apply for a membership. The founding members are: Tekla/Trimble, Graphisoft, Nemetschek Allplan, Vectorworks, Scia and DDS-CAD.
