SCIA Celebrates Jubilee Launch of its 10th Biyearly User Contest amongst Structural Engineers from around the World
SCIA rejoices over this 10th competition and invites all SCIA Engineer users worldwide to participate in this challenging user contest entitled the ‘The Art of Structural Design’. Projects can be sent in from 1 December 2016 up to 28 February 2017.
Herk-de-Stad, Belgium, 1 December 2016 – SCIA announced today that it is accepting submissions for its international engineering contest. This renowned competition distinguishes outstanding construction projects and inspiring accomplishments from the world’s top engineering and construction professionals.
Mrs. Hilde Sevens, CEO of SCIA, explains, “Over the years this contest has become a prominent happening to which users, the construction industry and all our partners look forward to. We will be celebrating our 10th edition giving all participants an exceptional opportunity to reveal their professional know-how and technical skills to the world.”

About the Contest
The “The Art of Structural Design” edition 2017 is open to all users who deploy SCIA Engineer as their structural analysis and design tool. Users can submit their projects in the following categories:
- Category 1: Buildings
- Category 2: Civil Structures
- Category 3: Industrial Buildings and Plants
- Category 4: Special Projects
Jury and Contest Winnings
An international and independent jury – composed of academics and industry experts – will gather in May 2017 to assess all submitted projects; the main criteria being originality, technical level, prestige and the innovative use of SCIA’s software.
These are the prizes for this year’s competition. Six laureates will be granted a reward.
- a. Prizes per Category - one winner and 3 nominees will be selected
- b. Prize of the Jury - The jury will also deliberate on one project having excelled in adapting a BIM workflow or illustrating best practices in sustainability or ecological footprint.
- c. Prize of the Public - This prize is to be awarded based on the results of a user vote organized via SCIA Engineer’s Facebook page. Every fan can vote on as many projects as he or she wishes.
The winner of each of the 4 categories, the 'Prize of the Jury’ and the 'Prize of the Public', will receive a cash reward of 1,500 Euro, bringing the money prize to a grand total of 9,000 Euro.
Promotion and User Contest Book
The winners, nominees and all other submissions will be published in SCIA’s The Art of Structural Design 2017 book. Four thousand copies of this highly admired book are to be distributed worldwide to press and media outlets, professional associations and to influential key players and peers in the structural engineering field. In addition, a shareable eBook will be made available for free.
Nominated and winning projects will also be promoted for publication in specialized engineering journals, magazines and construction related websites.
