Input table

Input table is a powerful tool which can help an engineer to do several tasks easier than the 3D scene. It is very effective in searching, filtering and selecting of objects. With changing of values, you can rename members, change loads, add new objects. Over the copy/paste functionality you can export table to Excel, change or add data and reimport back to SCIA Engineer.

Search, select and filter

This is a tutorial about searching of objects in a SCIA Engineer model, filtering and selecting.

Modelling of shells

There is one general method to model shells in SCIA Engineer: With 4 boundary lines. In the Video, there is explained the input of the geometry, rotation of local coordinate systems, input of loads, support and the evaluation of results with 2D sections.

Tension members

Tension Members can take only tension and they are excluded from the structure if they get pressure. This is a physical nonlinear analysis.

Nonlinear hinges on 1D Members

A small Tutorial, which describes the input of a nonlinear hinge - rotation/bending moment. The hinge allows a rotation of an angle 0,0018rad. For the explanation, a simple beam was used.

Create openings in curved shells

Openings in shells could be created by intersection with another surfaces. This short tutorial shows, how to create the intersections and remove the unnecessary parts of the shells. Also, a bit about the visualization settings.

Tracking guides

Tracking guides helps to input points quicker. You can select reference nodes or lines and input the node by direction and distance.

Absences

Absences are a part of model modifiers. They allow defining more groups of members or supports and assign these to load cases. These members will be the ignored (absent) in these load cases. On this way, the assembly situations or transport can be simulated.

Storeys

Storeys help the engineer to split the structure in logical blocks. You can use the visibility according to storeys, use them in Earthquake analysis to significantly reduce the calculation time, and use very nice summary or detailed storey results.
