SCIA ("us", "we", or "our") operates the scia.net  (https://www.scia.net) website (hereinafter referred to as the "Service").

Personal Data

SCIA is using electronic web forms, allowing users to leave us feedback or their details on a voluntary basis. The data controller (SCIA) collects and processes the personal data for the purpose of processing the requests.

Registration Form
This allows us to offer the user specific contents or services that may only be offered to registered users due to the nature of the matter in question.

Contact Form
This allows the user to request for more information on our products or services

Software Trial Request Forms
This allows the user to request for a free software trial

Student License Request Form
This allows any data subject who can be identified as a student or professor, to request a free student software license

Job Application Form
This form allows the user to apply for an open vacancy.  If SCIA concludes an employment contract with an applicant, the data transmitted shall be stored for the purpose of processing the employment relationship in compliance with the statutory provisions. If the controller does not conclude a contract of employment with the applicant, the application documents shall be automatically deleted 12 months after notification of the rejection decision, unless deletion conflicts with any other legitimate interests.

Event Subscription Form
This form allows the user to register for a SCIA event organized by the data collector, its subsidiaries, agents or resellers.

Training Subscription Form
This form allows the user to register for a SCIA training organized by the data collector, its subsidiaries, agents or resellers.

User Contest Book Form
This form allows the user to request a free hardcopy book of our User Contest

Orders via the Webshop
This allows us to sell our products and services to the user and to execute the resulting contracts. 
 

Newsletter Subscription Field
In all the above-mentioned forms, the data subject has the option to be informed by e-mail on a regular basis, using the e-mail address provided for this purpose. The data subject can revoke consent at any time with effect for the future by clicking on the unsubscribe link provided in the emailing.

Data Submission
Before submitting any data to the data controller, data subjects are required to read and agree to the presented legal agreement and privacy policy by checking the mandatory checkbox titled: “I agree to SCIA’s Terms and SCIA’s Privacy Policy”.

Personally identifiable information
Personally identifiable information collected using our web forms may include, but is not limited to:

  • First name and last name
  • Phone number
  • Address, State, Province, ZIP/Postal code, City
  • Cookies and Usage Data

SCIA and its local representatives such as subsidiaries, agents and resellers may use your Personal Data to contact you with newsletters, marketing or promotional materials and other information that may be of interest to you. You may opt out of receiving any, or all, of these communications from us by following the unsubscribe link or instructions provided in any email we send or by contacting us directly.

SCIA operates its webshop with Digital River GmbH as reseller. Digital River GmbH processes personal data under the terms of its privacy policy available here
 

Usage Data

We may also collect information on how the Service is accessed and used ("Usage Data"). This Usage Data may include information such as your computer's Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

Legal Basis for Processing Personal Data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

If you are from the European Economic Area (EEA), SCIA legal basis for collecting and using the personal information described in this Privacy Policy depends on the Personal Data we collect and the specific context in which we collect it.

SCIA may process your Personal Data because:

  • We need to perform a contract with you

  • The processing is in our legitimate interests and it is not overridden by your rights

Retention of Data

SCIA will retain your Personal Data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use your Personal Data to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, if we are required to retain your data to comply with applicable laws), resolve disputes and enforce our legal agreements and policies.

SCIA will also retain Usage Data for internal analysis purposes. Usage Data is generally retained for a shorter period of time, except when this data is used to strengthen the security or to improve the functionality of our Service, or we are legally obligated to retain this data for longer periods.

Business Transaction

Google Tag Manager (GTM)
Google Tag Manager (GTM”) is a tag management system to manage JavaScript and HTML tags used for tracking and analytics on websites. Tags are small code elements that, among other things, are used to measure traffic and visitor behaviour: to understand the effect of online advertising and social channels; to set up remarketing and orientation towards target groups; and to test and optimize websites. Revulytics Usage Intelligence
Revulytics service is provided by Revulytics Inc.

We are continually seeking to develop and enhance the products and services we offer to our customers. To facilitate this process, it is helpful for us to collect information related to how end users use our software. By installing and using our products, the end user is agreeing to participate in our CEIP (Customer Experience Improvement Program) whereby the user is granting us permission to collect, maintain, process and use analytics data related to the use of our software. All the data we collect is anonymous and we do not store any personally identifiable information.
 

Behavioural (Re)-Marketing

SCIA uses marketing and retargeting services to advertise on third party websites to you after you visited our Service. We and our third-party vendors use cookies to inform, optimise and serve ads based on your past visits to our Service.

Revulytics service is provided by Revulytics Inc. 
Software piracy is illegal and SCIA and its affiliates reserve the right to take all legal steps to stop piracy of their products and pursue those who take part in these activities. As part of these anti-piracy efforts, software products SCIA and its affiliates may contain security mechanisms intended to detect the installation or use of unauthorized copies of the software, and collect and transmit data relating to such copies (including data relating to use of such copies, the machines on which such copies are accessed or used, and network and user configuration data), to SCIA and its affiliates, agents and distributors.
