Upcoming Open Checks in Scia Engineer 14 - What will it bring?
In release 14 of Scia Engineer (April 2014) a very important innovation will be released: an open plug-in for user-defined code-checks. With this plug-in, each user is able to define relationships between a Scia Design Form and Scia Engineer. User-defined checks prepared in Forms are executed, visualized and reported in the same way as the in-house checks in Scia Engineer. The link between Scia Engineer and Scia Design Forms is based on an interactive Application Programming Interface (API). For each entity in a 3D model (e.g. a beam, node, slab), the relevant input data (e.g. cross-sections and materials, buckling data, internal forces, loads, etc.) are sent directly (through TCP/IP communication) to Scia Design Forms, where the calculation is executed. This ensures a swift transfer of data. Results and report layouts are sent back to Scia Engineer where they are displayed and added to the project documentation. Scia has worked out several design examples, to name a few:
- Steel connections (according to EN 1993-1-8:2005 and AISC 360-10);
- Composite beams (according to EN 1994-1-1:2004);
- Steel elements against fatigue failure (according to EN 1993-1-9:2005);
- Pad foundations, concrete section design;
The design output is illustrated hereby. This technological breakthrough will once again bring Scia Engineer closer to the daily practice.
