SCIA Engineer is a big change in the Brazilian structural analysis and design style. The adaptation of the software to the national standards will open many opportunities for the engineers to design more complex, slender and non-linear structures in order to solve logistics and space problems.

BIM based finite element analysis softwares is a big change in the Brazilian structural analysis and design style. The adaptation of SCIA Engineer to the national standards will open many opportunities for the engineers to design more complex, slender and non-linear structures in order to solve logistics and space problems of the country. However, FEM-based softwares are not the most used ones in Brazil nowadays and an adaptation from the previous design culture will be a challenge for the younger engineer generations.

The thesis is a reference for Brazilian engineers that are planning to adapt to SCIA Engineer that contains a review of basic concepts in structural analysis and BIM technology as well as examples of applications using the software and a detailed study of the impact that the software will have in Brazil.
