BAS - Pedestrian Bridge - Wenduine, Belgium

The pedestrian bridge is located on the Belgian coast, connecting the village with the beach and crossing both the coastal road and a double tram line.

The structure has an intricate geometry that consists of a series of stacked toroids which are offset, on plan from floor to floor resulting in set-backs and cantilevers to the external elevation and to the inside face of the forum.

This footbridge in the city of Esch-sur-Alzette forms a direct link between the heart of the city and the green space of Parc du Galgenberg. Seeing the complexity of the geometry, we decided not to build a flashy full 3D model but to structure it into several efficient “local” FE-models.

The dismantling of the old suspended bridge required a precise non-linear analysis of each (de-)construction stage. “We had heard about SCIA Engineer features for such complex problems, we tested it and we decided that it is the right solution.”

At this time at the Zaventem airport in Belgium, where hall number 40 stood before, a new building is being built.

The arena roof is part of the King Saud University Sport Campus in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) and it is the main feature of the sport campus.
